We are a small, rural school located in the heart of eastern Taranaki on the Forgotten World Highway.
We were founded in 1896 and have continued to serve the district for over 100 years. The original school building has since been removed from the school grounds and our current school building was built in 1947. In 2005 the neighbouring district school (Matau) closed and the students merged with Huiakama. We are a full primary school with students from Years 1 to 8.
Historically there have been mighty oak trees around the school which is where we pull our imagery and vision from.
Our Vision:
From little acorns mighty oaks grow. English Proverb
Our Mission:
Huiakama School will provide opportunities for the children to become empowered and engaged lifelong learners who strive to reach their potential.
Our Values:
Respect - Responsibility - Relationships
